attendance (www.attendance-india.com) is India's only yearbook on dance, now in its 21st year. For past 9 years 5 awards are given as industry benchmarks for those:
- Who have been often bypassed by the system and never been awarded NATIONALLY
- Who have 20 years of work behind and have potential for 20 more (so are midlife)
- Are serious, academic and consistent in artistic output
- Do not run after awards, shows and glory
- Will enhance our society, artistically
The awards are ALTERNATIVE AWARDS IN DANCE. These are named after iconic DANCE NAMES , EACH A MASTER.
- RAM GOPAL AWARD FOR BEST MALE DANCER
- UDAY SHANKAR AWARD FOR CHOREOGRAPHY
- MOHAN KHOKAR AWARD FOR DANCE DOCUMENTATION
- NATARAJ SHAKUNTALA AWARD TO DANCE COUPLES
- RUKMINIDEVI AWARD FOR SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION & OCCASIONALLY attendance LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
These AWARDS carry no customary cheque or shining shawls. Instead, we help the awardee reach out NATIONALLY (3 assured shows in parts of India they never been to) and in one case, INTERNATIONALLY (internship with a dance co. abroad or shows).
The idea is to MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
